The downhole seismic network in 2003 consisted of three 4 component accelerometers built by the CSMA and three Calidus type high temperature 3-component geophone receivers. The accelerometers in boreholes 4550 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-4550), 4601 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-4601) and OPS4 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-OPS4) were placed as they were during the monitoring in 2000. Two geophones were deployed in EPS1 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-EPS1) and GPK1 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-GPK1). Another geophone was tested in borehole 4616 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-4616) during the monitoring. This was first connected to the acquisition system at 17:30 20th June. At that time the sensor was on the surface. The tool was deployed onto the bottom of 4616 on 17th July. The detection of seismic events was performed by triggering. Each recorded signal has a duration of 5 s. The X,Y,Z coordinates in the file refer to the local coordinate system with the GPK1 wellhead as origin: X: Easting in meters from GPK1 wellhead (toward UTM32 East) Y: Northing in meters from GPK1 wellhead (toward UTM32 North) Z: Depth in meters from GPK1 wellhead The local coordinate system is based on the UTM32 system. The coordinates of the stations in the local coordinate system have been obtained from the Semore Seismic report for Socomine by B.C. Dyer et al., 2004 (Soultz GPK3 stimulation and GPK3-GPK2 circulation May to July 2003. Seismic monitoring report). The latitude, longitude and elevation in the WGS84 coordinate system have been derived from the local coordinate system. Last update of data: 10/09/2019

In 1996, three new accelerometers (4-component sensors) built by the CSMA and one hydrophone were deployed. As in past years, the 4-component sondes were located in boreholes 4616 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-4616), 4601 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-4601) and 4550 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-4550) within the granite and the hydrophone was deployed in EPS1 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-EPS1). Unlike the previous episodes, the accelerometers were not grouted in the boreholes. The X,Y,Z coordinates in the file refer to the local coordinate system with the GPK1 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-GPK1) wellhead as origin: X: Easting in meters from GPK1 wellhead (toward UTM32 East) Y: Northing in meters from GPK1 wellhead (toward UTM32 North) Z: Depth in meters from GPK1 wellhead The local coordinate system is based on the UTM32 system. The coordinates of the stations in the local coordinate system have been obtained from the CSMA report for Socomine by Jones and Jupe, 1997 (Microseismic results from the Soultz 1996 experimental programme). The latitude, longitude and elevation in the WGS84 coordinate system have been derived from the local coordinate system. Last update of data: 16/02/2021

During June/July 2000 a hydraulic stimulation program was conducted in the well GPK2 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/eng/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-GPK2) at the European Hot Dry Rock project, Soultz-sous-Forêts, France. The stimulation was performed over the openhole section of GPK2 from 4431 m measured depth (MD) to the bottom of the well at around 5084 m MD. A total of 27 800 m3 of water were injected. At the start of the stimulation 700 m3 of brine with a density of approximately 1.2 g/cc were injected in an effort to encourage downward growth of the stimulated region. The stimulation covered a period of 6 days. After a break of 7 days a post-fracturing, injection test was performed. Seismic monitoring continued for a further 11 days after the injection test (Dyer, B., 2001.Soultz GPK2 stimulation June/July 2000. Seismic monitoring report.). Dates of the different tests of the 2000 hydraulic program: - Stimulation test at GPK2: from 18:44 30/06/2000 to 16:33 06/07/2000. - Post-stimulation injection test at GPK2: from 10:09 13/07/2000 to 20:25 15/07/2000. The Episode contains several datasets which you can find further down the page in "Links".

The 2004 stimulation was aimed at improving the hydraulic performances of the well GPK4 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/eng/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-GPK4). This borehole was stimulated twice. The 2004 episode corresponds to the first stimulation of GPK4. 9300 m3 of water were injected during the test at a constant flowrate of 30 l/s, with peaks up to 45 l/s. A low flow injection test of GPK4 was performed before the stimulation to evaluate the initial injectivity of the well. The data from the injection test are included too. Dates of the 2004 hydraulic programme: - GPK4 low flow injection: from 10:38 08/09/2004 to 10:00 12/09/2004. - GPK4 stimulation: from 08:32 13/09/2004 to 20:00 16/09/2004. After drilling GPK2 an extensive hydraulic program was performed in 1995 to test the well and the circulation with GPK1. The main tests were realized during June, July and August 1995. It consisted first of two injection tests at GPK2 in June. The injection tests revealed that the injectivity was too low to consider circulation between the two wells GPK1 and GPK2. A short term and a long term stimulation experiments were also performed in June at GPK2 to stimulate the fracture network. A total of 28000 m3 of fluid was injected during the long term experiment. Following the stimulations, a stepped post-fracturing injection test was realized to observe the results of the stimulations. Finally, three relatively short circulation experiments were performed in July and August by using GPK1 as production borehole and GPK2 as reinjection borehole. Dates of the different tests of the 1995 hydraulic programme: - First injection test at GPK2: from 11:26 11/06/95 to 01:50 12/06/95 - Second injection test at GPK2: from 11:56 12/06/95 to 23:11 12/06/95 - Short term stimulation experiment at GPK2: from 20:00 14/06/95 to 01:27 15/06/95 - Long term stimulation experiment at GPK2: from 10:24 17/06/95 to 16:03 28/06/95 - Stepped post-fracturing injection test at GPK2: from 08:08 01/07/95 to 20:02 02/07/95 - First circulation test between GPK1 and GPK2: from 08:35 09/07/95 to 21:32 24/07/95 - Second circulation test between GPK1 and GPK2: from 13:09 31/07/95 to 19:04 09/08/95 - Third circulation test between GPK1 and GPK2: from 04:50 16/08/95 to 19:19 20/08/95 Baumgärtner, J., Jung, R., Gérard, A., Baria, R. and Garnish, J., 1996.The European HDR project at Soultz-sous-Forêts: stimulation of the second deep well and first circulation experiments, Proceedings of the 21st Workshop on Geothermal Reservoir Engineering, Stanford University, Stanford, California, January 22-24, 1996. Microseismic catalogue of the 2000 episode at Soultz-sous-Forêts calculated by B. Dyer (Semore Seismic) using the downhole network. Number of events: 13986. Microseismic monitoring of the hydraulic program at Soultz took place between June 30th and July 18th. During the program, a total of 31511 potential seismic events were recorded from which 13986 seismic events were located. The catalogue covers the two hydraulic tests realized during the 2000 episode. Only the events with an RMS misfit <10 ms were accepted. Time corresponding to the corrected waveforms distributed on the CDGP has been added. Time period: 30/06/2000 19:09:38 - 19/07/2000 07:54:17 (UTC time). The data parameters are the following: Column 1: Event number Column 2: Date (local) Column 3: Time (local) Column 4: Date (UTC) * Column 5: Time (UTC) * Column 6: Date corresponding to the corrected waveforms distributed by the CDGP (UTC) ** Column 7: Time corresponding to the corrected waveforms distributed by the CDGP (UTC) ** Column 8: Easting from GPK1 wellhead *** Column 9: Northing from GPK1 wellhead *** Column 10: Depth from GPK1 wellhead *** Column 11: Latitude WGS84 **** Column 12: Longitude WGS84 **** Column 13: Elevation WGS84 **** * The UTC time has been calculated from the local time. ** Some date and time corresponding to the corrected waveforms are missing. Discrepancies in the time were found with the waveforms for 87 events. Thus, the time corresponding to the corrected waveforms is given for 13899 events only. *** The local coordinate system is based on the UTM32 system. **** Latitude, longitude and elevation have been derived from easting, northing and depth from GPK1 wellhead. The description of the downhole network is available (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSFS2000-downhole_network). The seismological waveforms recorded by the downhole and the surface network during the 2000 episode are available (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSFS2000-Waveforms).
