GPK2 was the third well drilled for geothermal purposes at Soultz-sous-Forêts after GPK1 and EPS1. The well has been drilled southern to GPK1. It constitutes the second well of the doublet and obtains a maximum of fluid recovery. GPK2 well reached 3900 m in 1995 by drilling in destructive mode only. Hydraulic tests have been done to characterize the exchanger and to evaluate the potential fluid flow. In 1999, it was decided to exploit a lower level at 5000 m depth, where the temperature reaches 200°C in order to develop a geothermal resource aiming at electricity production? GPK2 was then extended to 5084 m. Location GPK2 WGS84: Latitude: 48.9308924 | 48° 55' 51'' N Longitude: 7.86662988 | 7° 51' 59'' E

GPK1 was the first well drilled for geothermal purposes at Soultz-sous-Forêts. The well was first drilled in 1987. It reached 2000 m and the temperature at the bottom hole was 140°C. Several hydraulic injections have been done associated with tracer tests and temperature and flow logs. In order to get deeper information, the GPK1 well was deepened to 3600 m in 1992. The downhole temperature reached 160°C. Location GPK1 WGS84: Latitude: 48.93525543 | 48° 56' 6'' N Longitude: 7.86535117 | 7° 51' 55'' E

The downhole seismic network in 2003 consisted of three 4 component accelerometers built by the CSMA and three Calidus type high temperature 3-component geophone receivers. The accelerometers in boreholes 4550 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-4550), 4601 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-4601) and OPS4 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-OPS4) were placed as they were during the monitoring in 2000. Two geophones were deployed in EPS1 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-EPS1) and GPK1 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-GPK1). Another geophone was tested in borehole 4616 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-4616) during the monitoring. This was first connected to the acquisition system at 17:30 20th June. At that time the sensor was on the surface. The tool was deployed onto the bottom of 4616 on 17th July. The detection of seismic events was performed by triggering. Each recorded signal has a duration of 5 s. The X,Y,Z coordinates in the file refer to the local coordinate system with the GPK1 wellhead as origin: X: Easting in meters from GPK1 wellhead (toward UTM32 East) Y: Northing in meters from GPK1 wellhead (toward UTM32 North) Z: Depth in meters from GPK1 wellhead The local coordinate system is based on the UTM32 system. The coordinates of the stations in the local coordinate system have been obtained from the Semore Seismic report for Socomine by B.C. Dyer et al., 2004 (Soultz GPK3 stimulation and GPK3-GPK2 circulation May to July 2003. Seismic monitoring report). The latitude, longitude and elevation in the WGS84 coordinate system have been derived from the local coordinate system. Last update of data: 10/09/2019

The microseismic network in operation during the 1994 circulation was essentially the same as that used in the 1993 experimental programme. It consisted of three accelerometers (4-component sensors) built by the CSMA in boreholes 4550 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-4550), 4601, 4616 and a single hydrophone in EPS1 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-EPS1) (Baria, R., 1996.The European HDR programme 1992-1995). The X,Y,Z coordinates in the file refer to the local coordinate system with the GPK1 wellhead as origin: X: Easting in meters from GPK1 wellhead (toward magnetic East) Y: Northing in meters from GPK1 wellhead (toward magnetic North) Z: Depth in meters from GPK1 wellhead The local coordinate system is based on the UTM32 system. The coordinates of the stations in the local coordinate system have been obtained from the thesis from S. Bourouis (Sismicité induite et comportement mécanique d'un massif granitique fracturé par injection d'eau). The latitude, longitude and elevation in the WGS84 coordinate system have been derived from the local coordinate system. Last update of data: 24/07/2019

In 1990/1991, an old oil well, EPS1 has been deepened and cored to characterize the granite reservoir and perform some deep hydraulic tests in view of a future experimental doublet. Unfortunately, the well had an important not controlled deviation and could not reach the expected depth. However, it was cored from 930 m to the bottom hole at 2227 m depth and provided a lot of scientific data.
