During June/July 2000 a hydraulic stimulation program was conducted in the well GPK2 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/eng/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-GPK2) at the European Hot Dry Rock project, Soultz-sous-Forêts, France. The stimulation was performed over the openhole section of GPK2 from 4431 m measured depth (MD) to the bottom of the well at around 5084 m MD. A total of 27 800 m3 of water were injected. At the start of the stimulation 700 m3 of brine with a density of approximately 1.2 g/cc were injected in an effort to encourage downward growth of the stimulated region. The stimulation covered a period of 6 days. After a break of 7 days a post-fracturing, injection test was performed. Seismic monitoring continued for a further 11 days after the injection test (Dyer, B., 2001.Soultz GPK2 stimulation June/July 2000. Seismic monitoring report.). Dates of the different tests of the 2000 hydraulic program: - Stimulation test at GPK2: from 18:44 30/06/2000 to 16:33 06/07/2000. - Post-stimulation injection test at GPK2: from 10:09 13/07/2000 to 20:25 15/07/2000. The Episode contains several datasets which you can find further down the page in "Links".

After drilling GPK2 an extensive hydraulic program was performed in 1995 to test the well and the circulation with GPK1. The main tests were realized during June, July and August 1995. It consisted first of two injection tests at GPK2 in June. The injection tests revealed that the injectivity was too low to consider circulation between the two wells GPK1 and GPK2. A short term and a long term stimulation experiments were also performed in June at GPK2 to stimulate the fracture network. A total of 28000 m3 of fluid was injected during the long term experiment. Following the stimulations, a stepped post-fracturing injection test was realized to observe the results of the stimulations. Finally, three relatively short circulation experiments were performed in July and August by using GPK1 as production borehole and GPK2 as reinjection borehole. Dates of the different tests of the 1995 hydraulic programme: - First injection test at GPK2: from 11:26 11/06/95 to 01:50 12/06/95 - Second injection test at GPK2: from 11:56 12/06/95 to 23:11 12/06/95 - Short term stimulation experiment at GPK2: from 20:00 14/06/95 to 01:27 15/06/95 - Long term stimulation experiment at GPK2: from 10:24 17/06/95 to 16:03 28/06/95 - Stepped post-fracturing injection test at GPK2: from 08:08 01/07/95 to 20:02 02/07/95 - First circulation test between GPK1 and GPK2: from 08:35 09/07/95 to 21:32 24/07/95 - Second circulation test between GPK1 and GPK2: from 13:09 31/07/95 to 19:04 09/08/95 - Third circulation test between GPK1 and GPK2: from 04:50 16/08/95 to 19:19 20/08/95 Baumgärtner, J., Jung, R., Gérard, A., Baria, R. and Garnish, J., 1996.The European HDR project at Soultz-sous-Forêts: stimulation of the second deep well and first circulation experiments, Proceedings of the 21st Workshop on Geothermal Reservoir Engineering, Stanford University, Stanford, California, January 22-24, 1996. The microseismic monitoring at Rittershoffen began 6 months before any drilling. Four permanent stations were deployed at the surface in 2012 and completed the network of eight surface stations from the Soultz-sous-Forêts network. The permanent network is composed of one or three-components seismometers. A temporary network of 31 stations (TOPASE network) was deployed from June 2013 to November 2014 to improve the dectection and location of the seismic monitoring during the field development operations. The stations of the temporary network were three-component seismometers belonging to the Geophysical Instrument Pool Potsdam (GIPP) of the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences. Easting and northing in the file refer to the extended Lambert II Cartesian system. The latitude and longitude in the WGS84 coordinate system have been derived from the extended Lambert II Cartesian system. The downhole seismological network in 1993 consisted of three accelerometers (4-component sensors) built by the CSMA and one hydrophone. The 4-component sondes were deployed in boreholes 4616 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-4616), 4601 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-4601) and 4550 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-4550) ( at depths of around 1500m within the granite and were grouted in place. The hydrophone was deployed in EPS1 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-EPS1) at a depth of around 2000m (Baria, R. 1996.The European HDR programme 1992-1995). The X,Y,Z coordinates in the file refer to the local coordinate system with the GPK1 wellhead as origin: X: Easting in meters from GPK1 wellhead (toward UTM32 East) Y: Northing in meters from GPK1 wellhead (toward UTM32 North) Z: Depth in meters from GPK1 wellhead The local coordinate system is based on the UTM32 system. The coordinates of the stations in the local coordinate system have been obtained from the report R 39025 of the BRGM by Hulot et al., 1996 (Testing the hodogram method on the 1993 Soultz microseismic data). The latitude, longitude and elevation in the WGS84 coordinate system have been derived from the local coordinate system. The associated catalogue is available (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSFS1993-catalogue).
