• The Hot Dry Rock (HDR) site of Soultz-sous-Forêts in Alsace was chosen in 1986 for scientific investigations. During the first phase of the project (1987-1988), a first borehole GPK1 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-GPK1) was drilled. It reached a final depth of 2000 m and various investigations were undertaken during that period. In December 1988, an injection test was made at the bottom zone of this borehole with a relatively low flow rate of 3.3 l/s for a period of three days. Induced seismicity recorded was detected by 3-axis geophone probes deployed in three old recovered oil wells at depth ranging from 850 to 1350 m. A small amount of the detected seismicity could be located and showed a trend to grow towards greater depths than the injection zone. The following report from BRGM in the link gives details about the experiments and presents the results about the seismic monitoring and the location of the events. Some hydraulic data are presented as well with figures.

 • During May/June 2003 a hydraulic stimulation program was conducted in the well GPK3 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/eng/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-GPK3); at the European Hot Dry Rock Project, Soultz-sous-Forêts, France. The stimulation was followed in June/July 2003 by a circulation test between GPK3 and GPK2 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/eng/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-GPK2). The stimulation was performed over the openhole section of GPK3 from 4556 m measured depth (MD) to the bottom of the well at around 5101 m MD. A total of 34,000 m3 of water was injected. At the start of the stimulation 450 m3 of brine were injected in an effort to encourage downward growth of the stimulated region. The stimulation covered a period of 11 days. After a break of 7 days, a post-fracturing and circulation test was performed between GPK3 and GPK2 for a period of 17 days (Dyer, B.C., Baria, R. and Michelet, S., 2004. Soultz GPK3 stimulation and GPK3-GPK2 circulation May to July 2003. Seismic monitoring report. Semore Seismic report for Socomine.). Microseismic emissions have been monitored and recorded throughout the experiment, and continued until August 26th. The five principle phases of the hydraulic programme were the following: - Phase 1: GPK3 injection - Phase 2: GPK3 and GPK2 injection - Phase 3: GPK3 injection and GPK2 shut-in - Phase 4a: GPK3 and GPK2 shut-in - Phase 4b: GPK3 shut-in and GPK2 venting - Phase 5: GPK3 to GPK2 circulation The Episode contains the following datasets: - Microseismic catalogue of the surface network with magnitude by M. • The 2010 circulation test began in November 2009 after a maintenance period and lasted until October 2010, when a new maintenance period was programmed. This 11-month experiment is the longest circulation ever performed on the Soultz project. During the test, GPK2 was used as production well (with Line Shaft Pump), GPK3 and GPK1 as reinjection wells (Cuenot, N., Genter, A., 2015. Microseismic Activity Induced During Recent Circulation Tests at the Soultz-sous-Forêts EGS Power Plant). The Episode contains several datasets which you can find further down the page in "Links".

 • Microseismic catalogue of the 2000 episode at Soultz-sous-Forêts calculated by B. Dyer (Semore Seismic) using the downhole network. Number of events: 13986. During the program, a total of 31511 potential seismic events were recorded from which 13986 seismic events were located. The catalogue covers the two hydraulic tests realized during the 2000 episode. Only the events with an RMS misfit <10 ms were accepted. Time corresponding to the corrected waveforms distributed on the CDGP has been added. Time period: 30/06/2000 19:09:38 - 19/07/2000 07:54:17 (UTC time). • In 1990/1991, an old oil well, EPS1 has been deepened and cored to characterize the granite reservoir and perform some deep hydraulic tests in view of a future experimental doublet. Unfortunately, the well had an important not controlled deviation and could not reach the expected depth. However, it was cored from 930 m to the bottom hole at 2227 m depth and provided a lot of scientific data.
