During May/June 2003 a hydraulic stimulation program was conducted in the well GPK3 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/eng/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-GPK3); at the European Hot Dry Rock Project, Soultz-sous-Forêts, France. The stimulation was followed in June/July 2003 by a circulation test between GPK3 and GPK2 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/eng/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-GPK2). The stimulation was performed over the openhole section of GPK3 from 4556 m measured depth (MD) to the bottom of the well at around 5101 m MD. A total of 34,000 m3 of water was injected. At the start of the stimulation 450 m3 of brine were injected in an effort to encourage downward growth of the stimulated region. The stimulation covered a period of 11 days. After a break of 7 days, a post-fracturing and circulation test was performed between GPK3 and GPK2 for a period of 17 days (Dyer, B.C., Baria, R. and Michelet, S., 2004. Soultz GPK3 stimulation and GPK3-GPK2 circulation May to July 2003. Seismic monitoring report. Semore Seismic report for Socomine.). Microseismic emissions have been monitored and recorded throughout the experiment, and continued until August 26th. The five principle phases of the hydraulic programme were the following: - Phase 1: GPK3 injection - Phase 2: GPK3 and GPK2 injection - Phase 3: GPK3 injection and GPK2 shut-in - Phase 4a: GPK3 and GPK2 shut-in - Phase 4b: GPK3 shut-in and GPK2 venting - Phase 5: GPK3 to GPK2 circulation The Episode contains the following datasets: - Microseismic catalogue of the surface network with magnitude by M. The microseismic network in operation during the 1995 stimulation, injection and circulation experiments represents a slightly modified version of the 1993 system. It consisted of accelerometers (4-component sensors) built by the CSMA in boreholes 4550, 4601, 4616 and of a single hydrophone in EPS1. These sensors were used throughout the 1995 experimental programme. A further hydrophone was deployed in GPK1 at a depth of 3480m to monitor the brine injection (Wilson, S.A., Jupe, A.J., Jones R.H. and Dyer, B., 1996.Microseismic results from the 1995 Soultz experimental programme, CSMA Report for Socomine, January 1996.). The X,Y,Z coordinates in the file refer to the local coordinate system with the GPK1 wellhead as origin: X: Easting in meters from GPK1 wellhead (toward magnetic East) Y: Northing in meters from GPK1 wellhead (toward magnetic North) Z: Depth in meters from GPK1 wellhead The local coordinate system is based on the UTM32 system. The coordinates of the stations in the local coordinate system have been obtained from the thesis of S. Bourouis (Sismicité induite et comportement mécanique d'un massif granitique fracturé par injection d'eau). The exact coordinates of the GPK1 hydrophone have not been retrieved and so are not in the file. The latitude, longitude and elevation in the WGS84 coordinate system have been derived from the local coordinate system. Last update of data: 24/07/2019

The 2010 circulation test began in November 2009 after a maintenance period and lasted until October 2010, when a new maintenance period was programmed. This 11-month experiment is the longest circulation ever performed on the Soultz project. During the test, GPK2 was used as production well (with Line Shaft Pump), GPK3 and GPK1 as reinjection wells (Cuenot, N., Genter, A., 2015. Microseismic Activity Induced During Recent Circulation Tests at the Soultz-sous-Forêts EGS Power Plant). The Episode contains several datasets which you can find further down the page in "Links".

The downhole seismological network in 1993 consisted of three accelerometers (4-component sensors) built by the CSMA and one hydrophone. The 4-component sondes were deployed in boreholes 4616 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-4616), 4601 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-4601) and 4550 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-4550) ( at depths of around 1500m within the granite and were grouted in place. The hydrophone was deployed in EPS1 (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSF-EPS1) at a depth of around 2000m (Baria, R. 1996.The European HDR programme 1992-1995). The X,Y,Z coordinates in the file refer to the local coordinate system with the GPK1 wellhead as origin: X: Easting in meters from GPK1 wellhead (toward UTM32 East) Y: Northing in meters from GPK1 wellhead (toward UTM32 North) Z: Depth in meters from GPK1 wellhead The local coordinate system is based on the UTM32 system. The coordinates of the stations in the local coordinate system have been obtained from the report R 39025 of the BRGM by Hulot et al., 1996 (Testing the hodogram method on the 1993 Soultz microseismic data). The latitude, longitude and elevation in the WGS84 coordinate system have been derived from the local coordinate system. The associated catalogue is available (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSFS1993-catalogue). The associated waveforms are available (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSFS1993-seed). Last update of data: 24/07/2019

Microseismic catalogue of the 2000 episode at Soultz-sous-Forêts calculated by B. Dyer (Semore Seismic) using the downhole network. Number of events: 13986. Microseismic monitoring of the hydraulic program at Soultz took place between June 30th and July 18th. During the program, a total of 31511 potential seismic events were recorded from which 13986 seismic events were located. The catalogue covers the two hydraulic tests realized during the 2000 episode. Only the events with an RMS misfit <10 ms were accepted. Time corresponding to the corrected waveforms distributed on the CDGP has been added. Time period: 30/06/2000 19:09:38 - 19/07/2000 07:54:17 (UTC time). The data parameters are the following: Column 1: Event number Column 2: Date (local) Column 3: Time (local) Column 4: Date (UTC) * Column 5: Time (UTC) * Column 6: Date corresponding to the corrected waveforms distributed by the CDGP (UTC) ** Column 7: Time corresponding to the corrected waveforms distributed by the CDGP (UTC) ** Column 8: Easting from GPK1 wellhead *** Column 9: Northing from GPK1 wellhead *** Column 10: Depth from GPK1 wellhead *** Column 11: Latitude WGS84 **** Column 12: Longitude WGS84 **** Column 13: Elevation WGS84 **** * The UTC time has been calculated from the local time. ** Some date and time corresponding to the corrected waveforms are missing. Discrepancies in the time were found with the waveforms for 87 events. Thus, the time corresponding to the corrected waveforms is given for 13899 events only. *** The local coordinate system is based on the UTM32 system. **** Latitude, longitude and elevation have been derived from easting, northing and depth from GPK1 wellhead. The description of the downhole network is available (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSFS2000-downhole_network). The seismological waveforms recorded by the downhole and the surface network during the 2000 episode are available (https://cdgp.u-strasbg.fr/geonetwork/srv/fre/catalog.search#/metadata/SSFS2000-Waveforms). After drilling GPK2 an extensive hydraulic program was performed in 1995 to test the well and the circulation with GPK1. The main tests were realized during June, July and August 1995. It consisted first of two injection tests at GPK2 in June. The injection tests revealed that the injectivity was too low to consider circulation between the two wells GPK1 and GPK2. A short term and a long term stimulation experiments were also performed in June at GPK2 to stimulate the fracture network. A total of 28000 m3 of fluid was injected during the long term experiment. Following the stimulations, a stepped post-fracturing injection test was realized to observe the results of the stimulations. Finally, three relatively short circulation experiments were performed in July and August by using GPK1 as production borehole and GPK2 as reinjection borehole.
