Description

  • A specific type of seismic source defined by a polygon that isolates a portion of the earth's surface. Usually, a seismogenic source zone is part of an extended source model composed by several zones. An area source type usually adopted to model distributed seismicity. In an area source the seismicity occurrence rate is assumed uniform over the source area; this produces an hazard pattern with a plateau of constant hazard inside the polygon delimiting the area source and values of hazard that tend to decrease as we move away from the border of the source
  • That portion of the crust or lithosphere capable of generating earthquakes (def. de Seismogenic zone)
